The 1980s

A lot of things happened for the first time in Britain in 1979.

The UK got its first woman Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. Trevor Francis became the first £1m footballer. The UK's first nudist beach was opened in Brighton. Motor manufacturer Vauxhall launched its very first front-wheel drive car, the Astra.

And for the first time the Interim NEB (National Safety Examinations Board) opened its doors in Leicester.

As the 1980s dawned and Punk gave way to the New Romantics, the Interim NEB changed its name to NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health). Here's how NEBOSH developed during the 80s, alongside other events of the time.
